The OPEN STUDIO initiative returns for its third edition.
At the UniCredit headquarters in Lampugnano, Milan, , visitors will have the opportunity to see a live restoration project of a work from our Collection: DePortate by Peppe Perone, 2004. During the various phases of restoration, various moments of dissemination and educational in-depth study are planned, both with the major restoration schools in the area, such as the Brera Academy and the Botticino Restoration School, and with colleagues to introduce them to the world of the UniCredit Art Collection.
About the artwork
The “de-ported” geese depicted in the piece perfectly embody Peppe Perone’s ironic and surreal sensibility. The sculpture is conceived by the young artist as a place of magical appearance, where anything is possible; his characters resemble actors in a nonsensical play, or the animals in a La Fontaine fable, as they behave and live situations parallel to those of human beings. The choice to use sand — a material that has been central to his work since 1999 — as a coating for the figures also reflects a sense of childhood reminiscence, and an idea of art as play that is characteristic of Perone’s practice. Everyday elements are thus “crystallised”, projecting them beyond time and enhancing their unusual, metaphysical and enigmatic quality.
