With the exhibition FROM FONTANA TO CRIPPA TO TANCREDI. THE FORMIDABLE ADVENTURE OF THE SPATIALIST MOVEMENT, the Accorsi-Ometto Museum of Decorative Arts continues its research into 20th-century Italian art and aims to investigate the role of Spatialism in the artistic renewal of the immediate post-war period.
The exhibition reviews twenty-four masters, with over fifty works from museum, institutional and private collections. The transformation of Italian art that began in the second half of the 1940s would have been unimaginable without the conceptual approach to the problem of space, identified in painting by basic signs, lines, holes and cuts in the canvases. This change found its protagonists in the Spatialist Movement, fascinated by a new vision of the cosmos.
Among these masters was Roberto Sebastiano Matta Echaurren with a work from our collection, Untitled, 1955.
