Rachele Maistrello wins the Tomorrows UniCredit residency and production award, supported by UniCredit, now in its second edition.
Conceived, organised and promoted by Urbs Picta, with the curatorship of Jessica Bianchera and the collaboration of Fondazione Cariverona, Contemporanea - University of Verona and Veronafiere S.p.A. - ArtVerona, it is one of the flagship actions of the TOMORROWS project, whose objective is to bring attention to the relationship between art and sustainability, this year focusing on the value of water and the theme of the water emergency.
The prize was awarded to the artist, represented at ArtVerona 2024, Veronafiere's modern and contemporary art fair, by the Artopia gallery, for the project FEN LIN. Black Diamond, unanimously chosen by the prestigious jury composed of Uzbek filmmaker and artist Saodat Ismailova, the Chief Curator of OGR Torino Samuele Piazza and Marco Zappalorto, Director of the Department of Development and Institutional Relations of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Foundation (TBA21) and Ocean Space, Venice.
Rachele Maistrello's project convinced the jurors for its ability to address urgent scientific issues with sensitivity and depth and for its methodological approach to the theme of environmental and transgenerational epigenetics, in which artistic practice becomes a tool for exploration and dialogue with scientific research. She has thus fully expressed the intent of the residence and production prize, which stimulates transdisciplinary research to find creative and unconventional solutions to current environmental, economic and social issues, demonstrating how art can generate images, reflections and visions for a possible, prosperous and inclusive future, capable of stimulating a change of course in our relationship with the planet and its ecosystems.
