Biography
Rachele Maistrello (Vittorio Veneto, Treviso, Italy, 1986)
Born in Vittorio Veneto (Treviso, Italy) in 1986, Rachele Maistrello is an Italian visual artist whose practice, grounded in photography, video, and archival documents, creates expansive and dreamlike narratives that explore the intersections of body, landscape, and science. Her work often begins with a research-based approach that evolves into stories where the boundaries between reality and imagination become fluid.
Influenced by new materialism, Maistrello uses perception and archival imagery as fields of visual and conceptual inquiry. Through a performative photographic practice, she investigates the marginal spaces of everyday life, altering perception to generate suspended, dreamlike atmospheres.
Over the years, she has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including MAXXI Museum (Rome, 2025), PAC – Pavilion of Contemporary Art (Milan, 2023), Scuderie del Quirinale (Rome, 2023), Palazzo Reale (Milan), Kunsthalle Bratislava (2023), Benaki Museum (Athens, 2022), Hamlet (Zurich, 2020), Kunstverein Bielefeld (2020), Inside-Out Museum (Beijing, 2019), La Triennale di Milano (2018), PHotoEspaña (Madrid, 2018), Fotomuseum Winterthur (2018), Manifesta 12 (Palermo, 2018), Unseen (Amsterdam, 2017), and BYOB at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011).
Her works have been featured in numerous magazines and publications, including Flash Art Italia, Vogue Italia, Wallpaper Magazine, Unseen Magazine, Vice International, and Self Publish Be Happy.
