Biography
Heidi Specker (Damme, Germany, 1962)
Born in Damme, Germany, in 1962, Heidi Specker studied photography at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld and obtained both her diploma and a master’s degree from the University of Leipzig in 1995.
Her photographic practice explores the relationship between construction and deconstruction in the making of the image. Her main themes often revolve around architecture, nature, and urban landscapes, which she combines to create graphically composed scenes with vibrant luminosity. Specker’s work is characterized by meticulous attention to detail, a strong focus on light and color, and a narrative quality that invites viewers to contemplate the interaction between the various elements within her photographs.
Her works are included in the permanent collections of the Sprengel Museum in Hanover and the Berlinische Galerie, and she has received the European Photography Award and the Deutscher Fotopreis.
She is currently a professor at the University of Leipzig and lives and works in Berlin.
