Biography
Claudia Losi (Piacenza, Italy, 1971)
Born in Piacenza in 1971, Claudia Losi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where she also earned a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature.
Her artistic research explores the relationship between human beings and nature. Travel, walking, and exploration are investigated as forms of knowledge through which she establishes a direct relationship with places, interweaving disciplines such as natural sciences, ethnology, geology, geography, cartography, literature, and poetry.
Most of her works emerge from long-term projects that create a dialogue between the slow rhythms of nature and the shorter spans of human existence: from educational processes to the transformations of lichens, glaciers, and geological maps, moving from the micro to the macro.
Her recurring use of sewing reflects both the slowness of nature and relationships, and the intertwining of stories, sensitivities, and cultures.
Since 1998, she has developed participatory and relational projects built around objects that become catalysts of collective energies, experiences, and memories.
She has exhibited in major international institutions such as MAXXI in Rome, the Royal Academy in London, IKON Gallery, and MAMbo in Bologna.
In 2020 she won the Italian Council IX Prize. The artist currently lives and works in Piacenza.
