Gaspard Dughet (Rome, Italy, 1615 - Rome, Italy, 1675)

Born in Rome in 1615, he trained in the workshop of Nicolas Poussin, his sister's husband, where he remained from 1631 to 1635, where his talent for landscapes was noticed, and encouraged, especially towards hunting scenes. It is difficult to reconstruct the chronology of his life: he probably stayed in Naples until 1635, and then in Rome  where he worked a lot, as biographers testify.

From 1646, following an illness, he moved to Florence, where he assisted Pietro Berettini da Cortona in painting the rooms of the Pitti Palace, before moving to Perugia and then back to Naples.

These were the years in which his figurative style evolved, which in his youth was devoid of subjects, focusing on the landscape element, and which looked more towards Titian, for the structure and style of his characters. His stay in Naples was short and in 1646 he returned to Rome.

In 1657, he was elected academician of S. Luca and in the same year worked with Guillaume Courtois at Palazzo Pamphilj in Valmontone, in the province of Rome.

The artist died in Rome in 1675.
