Biography
Pier Francesco Cittadini (Milan, Italy, 1616 – Bologna, Italy, 1681)
Born in Milan in 1616, Pier Francesco Cittadini trained in the workshop of painter Daniele Crespi, where he remained until 1634, before moving to Bologna.
His career was mainly based in this city, focusing predominantly on religious themes. Between 1645 and 1646, he moved to Rome, visiting the city also in 1650 before finally settling permanently in Bologna.
Cittadini worked alongside other artists on the frescoes of the Villa Estense in Sassuolo, before focusing almost exclusively on still lifes, landscapes, and commissioned portraits.
He died in Bologna on the 20th of September, 1681.
