Biography
Matthias Bitzer (Stuttengard, Germany, 1975)
Born in 1975, Matthias Bitzer attended the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he graduated in 2004.
In his artworks, the artist combines drawing, sculpture and painting, creating spaces filled with historical and intellectual references, often obscure. His aim is to immerse the viewer in his works by activating a sense of recognition of historical references, together with a profound reflection on their own identity.
The artist creates complex works and installations, to maintain a firm connection to the construction of memory and reality. This often involves characters from literature who, in their lives, often experience circumstances that are alien to them.
Bitzer's works can be found in numerous public and private collections, including LACMA in Los Angeles, MARTa Herford in Germany, CCA Andratx in Andratx (Spain), and the Rosenblum Collection & Friends, in Paris.
The artist currently lives and works in Berlin.
