Art Walks: “Anne Marie Louise Thélusson, Comtesse de Sorcy” by Jacques Louis David

in the exhibition Hair – Stories of Power and Passion

We are delighted to present an important work from the UniCredit Art Collection as a loan in a current exhibition. Jacques‑Louis David’s portrait Anne‑Marie‑Louise Thélusson, Comtesse de Sorcy will be on view at the Kunsthalle München from 20 March to 4 October 2026 as part of the exhibition “Hair – Stories of Power and Passion”.

The exhibition explores how hair is staged in art as an expression of identity, power, and beauty. Historical and contemporary positions enter into dialogue, revealing the cultural symbolism of this motif. David’s portrait takes its place as a key work of Classicism: the precise depiction of hair and physiognomy reflects the societal ideals of its time and creates a striking link between art‑historical tradition and present‑day perspectives.

Before this, the painting was shown in the successful Louvre exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of Jacques‑Louis David’s death.

After the end of the exhibition, the painting will return to the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, as loan from UniCredit Bank GmbH.
