Arts Walks - Ludovico Carracci to Museo Civico Medievale, Bologna

In Bologna, at the Museo Civico Medievale from November 22, 2025, the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to Bartolomeo Cesi (Bologna, 1556–1629) will be inaugurated. Cesi was a leading figure in the Bolognese artistic scene between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. His works, often intended for churches and convents, embody the ideal of the “Christian craftsman” promoted by the post-Tridentine reform and were also appreciated by Guido Reni, who recognized their profound spiritual coherence. The exhibition naturally complements the new sixteenth- and seventeenth-century rooms of the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, where Cesi’s works directly dialogue with those of the Carracci, offering an overview of Bolognese painting of the time. Among these is also a masterpiece from the UniCredit Art Collection: The Vision of Saint Vincent by Ludovico Carracci.
