To mark the 200th anniversary of Jacques-Louis David (1748–1825), the Louvre is presenting a comprehensive retrospective of the French painter. The exhibition, held in the Napoleon Hall, features around 100 works and explores both David’s artistic achievements and his political influence.
Among the works on display is the portrait “Anne-Marie-Louise Thélusson, Comtesse de Sorcy” from the UniCredit GmbH art collection, which is on permanent loan to the Alte Pinakothek in Munich and has now been made available to the Louvre for the special exhibition.. It is shown alongside numerous significant pieces, including rarely exhibited loans from Versailles, Brussels, and other European museums.
This is the first major monographic exhibition on David since 1989 and is based on the latest research findings. It places particular emphasis on the emotional depth of his works, which is often concealed beneath their strict neoclassical form. With the world’s largest collection of David’s works, the Louvre offers an ideal setting for this exceptional exhibition.
Exhibition dates: October 15, 2025 to January 26, 2026
