Bank Austria Bark: Unique art park at Mühlschüttel in Vienna officially opened!

2.8-hectare Bank Austria Park featuring 14 magical artworks curated by André Heller

A new and previously unmatched oasis of art and nature has been unveiled on the riverside of the Upper Old Danube on October 4, 2025. Located directly at the heart of Vienna’s traditional leisure paradise, the new Bank Austria Park at Mühlschüttel is not only a remarkable addition to the metropolis but is also en route to attract international attention.

Where once private individuals leased land from the city, a freely accessible 28,000 m² natural oasis has now been created, featuring 150 newly planted trees and 3,000 m² of perennials and shrubs.

What makes this park truly special are 14 imaginative, playful, and in some cases monumental sculptures, sound installations, and wind chimes created by artists from seven different countries. This place of relaxation, beauty, and magic was brought to life from an idea by André Heller. The internationally renowned multimedia artist has designed his first park in Austria with this project.

Thanks to the collaboration between the City of Vienna and UniCredit Bank Austria, the concept could be realized. Work began in early January 2025, and just nine months later, the new Bank Austria Park was born.

Art meets nature – free of charge and along the waterfront

A key highlight: The new Bank Austria Park at Mühlschüttel features a total of 14 artworks by renowned artists, all funded by UniCredit Bank Austria. These large-scale, whimsical works explore the elements earth, water, air, and light in unique and spectacular ways.

This interplay of nature and art transforms the green space into a magical realm of imagination. The sculptures, wind chimes, and installations offer an unforgettable artistic experience right by the water – free for all visitors to enjoy.

Among the featured artists are: Carmen Wiederin, Monika GilSing, Peter Pongratz, Marek Zyga, Edgar Tezak, Elmgreen & Dragset, Xenia Hausner, Susanne Karl, Moritz Mizrahi, Ugo Rondinone, Karl Karner, Era Tsao 曹嫣然, and André Heller himself.

Natural plant diversity meets modern park design

From gnarled walnut trees and lush fig trees to fruit-laden apricot and plum trees – certain existing areas of the park were intentionally left untouched and then harmoniously integrated with newly selected plantings.

Over 150 trees were planted and around 22,500 m² of meadow areas were created. In the more than 3,000 m² of perennial beds and shrub islands, which add splashes of color throughout the park, plants like grape hyacinths, pearl everlasting, grass lilies, and shrub roses now flourish.

These colorful flowerbeds are not only visually striking but also serve as a valuable nectar buffet for countless insects, including bees and butterflies.
