Art Walks - Felice Casorati to Palazzo Reale, Milan

The exhibition dedicated to Felice Casorati will open on 15 February 2025 in the rooms of the Palazzo Reale.

Felice Casorati (1883 - 1963) was one of the most important artists of the 20th century in Italy, and one of the longest-lived of his era; he lived through the period of the avant-garde, the return to order, and the post-war period.

The exhibition at Palazzo Reale highlights the multifaceted vocation and activity of the artist, who was not only a painter but also an engraver, architect and scene designer.
Among the artworks in the exhibition, it will also be possible to admire two artworks that are part of the UniCredit Art Collection: Donna con manto of 1935 and Le sorelle Pontorno of 1937.

Le sorelle Pontorno is a masterpiece that encloses Casorati's artistic syntax. In this large-format canvas, created by stitching two pieces together, the scene of an interior is imprisoned in the joint perspective  of floors and walls. The matriarchal pyramid formed by the group of young women develops into a ‘spiral’, symbolising life examined from within a reflective consciousness, like the one of the artist.

The work was recently the protagonist of a major open-air restoration project at the UniCredit Lampugnano spaces in Milan, in collaboration with the non-profit association Cesmar 7 (Centro per lo Studio dei Materiali per il Restauro).

In addition to restoring the good state of the work, the project is also aimed at scientific research into the materials used by the artist for the paint film and stabilising the joints of the canvases used to allow perfect, long-lasting legibility.

The exhibition can be visited until 29 June 2025.
