    Antonio Donghi (Rom, Italien 1897 - Rom, Italien 1963)

    1897 in Rom geboren, absolvierte er 1916 sein Studium an der königlichen Kunstakademie.

    1919 reiste er nach Venedig und nach Florenz, um seine Studien über die großen Meister des 15. und 16. Jahrhunderts zu vertiefen.

    1923 stellte er auf der Biennale in Rom seine ersten Bilder aus und hatte bereits ein Jahr später seine erste Einzelausstellung. Den Höhepunkt seines Erfolges erreichte er 1927 im Rahmen einer Einzelausstellung in New York, wo er zahlreiche Werke verkaufen konnte.

    Er schloss sich dem Künstlerkreis, um die von Mario Broglio geleitete Zeitschrift "Valori plastici" an. Diese betonte die Bedeutung der Abgrenzung von der Avantgarde.

    Die 1930er Jahre waren für ihn geprägt von intensiver Arbeit und weiteren Erfolgen; seine Werke wurden von diesen bedeutenden Museen und Galerien erworben: das Museum Palazzo Pitti für moderne Kunst, die Städtischen Museen von Turin und Genua, das Ca'Pesaro Museum und die Nationalgalerie für moderne Kunst in Rom.

    Im selben Jahrzehnt erhielt er zudem Lehraufträge, 1939 auch am Zentralinstitut für Restaurierung in Rom.

    Nach dem Krieg widmete sich Donghi hauptsächlich der Darstellung kleiner Landschaften, die er während seiner Aufenthalte im nördlichen Latium, in Umbrien und in der Toskana live zeichnete. Die Kunstwerke aus dieser Zeit sind präzise und detailliert.

    Zu Beginn der 1950er Jahre hielt er weiterhin Einzelaustellungen in den Jahren 1952,1955 und 1959 ab. Gleichzeitig begann er jedoch sich zurückzuziehen und zu isolieren.

    Er starb 1963 in Rom.
