    Pieter Mulier (Haarlem, Netherlands 1637 - Milan, Italy 1701)

    Born in Haarlem, in the Netherlands, he was taught to paint by his father, before moving to Rome in 1656, where he decorated a room in Palazzo Colonna.

    Thanks to his noteworthy abilities and remarkable artworks, he soon earned the nickname ‘Cavalier Tempesta’ (Stormy Knight).


    Mulier remained in Rome until 1669, when he moved to northern Italy, invited by Count Vitaliano, who received a letter from his brother, Gilberto Borromeo, praising Mulier's landscapes. In 1676, Mulier was imprisoned in Genoa on suspicion of killing his wife and remained incarcerated until 1684, where he continued to paint.


    After his release, he stayed in Milan, where he died in 1701.
