Antonio Maria Marini (Venice, Italy 1668 – Venice, Italy 1725)

Born in Venice, he spent his youth in Padua, where he trained as a painter. Following a period in Bologna from 1693, in 1700 he returned to Padua, where he entered into contact with the painters Salvator Rosa and Sebastiano Ricci, who inspired him to become a prolific painter of landscapes, seascapes and battle-scenes.

In 1702, Marini moved to Venice, where he produced a series of 18 works (landscapes, storms and battles) acquired by Lord Edward Irwin on his trip to Italy, now stored at the Temple Newsam House, an annex of the Leeds Art Gallery in Yorkshire.

Sources attest that Marini was active until 1711, mainly in the city of Venice, where he died in 1725.
