Antonio Diziani (Venice, Italy 1737 - Venice, Italy 1797)

Born in Venice in 1737, his father was Gaspare Diziani, a prominent Rococo artist. Antonio was more influenced by Francesco Zuccarelli, Giuseppe Zais and Marco Ricci.

The composition and blue colours of his landscapes and his long, thin brushstrokes distinguished Diziani as one of the best-known Venetian landscape painters of the second half of the eighteenth century, rendering rustic scenes full of anecdotal realism.

Typical examples of his work are the bright paintings of bucolic woodlands or small villages as well as the grandiose landscapes typical of the Venetian tradition.

In 1774, he was elected a member of the Venice Painting and Sculpture Academy, where he remained until his death in 1797.
