Giovanni Camillo Sagrestani (Florence, 1660 – Florence, 1731)

Born in Florence in 1660, Giovanni Camillo Sagrestani trained under Antonio Giusti and soon developed a personal style influenced by Carlo Cignani and the Emilian school.

He became one of the leading figures of Florentine Baroque, known for his elegant, dynamic, and luminous painting. He created altarpieces and frescoes for numerous Tuscan churches, including San Frediano in Cestello and the SS. Annunziata in San Giovanni Valdarno.

Among his pupils were Matteo Bonechi and Giovanni Battista Ranieri del Pace, who continued his stylistic legacy.

Sagrestani is considered a bridge between 17th-century classicism and the emerging trends of the 18th century, with a body of work that reflects the decorative and spiritual tastes of his time.

The artist died in Florence in 1731.
