Andrea Scacciati (Florence, Italy, 1642 – Florence, Italy, 1710)

Born in Florence in 1642, Andrea Scacciati trained under Mario Balassi and Lorenzo Lippi, specializing in the painting of flowers, fruit, and animals—a genre in which he excelled for its composition and refinement.

He worked at the Medici court, collaborating with Bartolomeo Bimbi on large decorative panels for Medici villas. His works are distinguished by the use of baroque vases, vibrant colors, and deep shading, setting him apart from his contemporaries.
Sources attribute around 120 paintings to him, many of which were part of Cosimo III de’ Medici’s historical collections.

In 1698, he collaborated with sculptor Giovanni Battista Foggini on colorful mosaics for furniture and decorative objects.

His son, Pietro Neri Scacciati, also became a painter, specializing in depictions of birds.

The artist died in Florence in 1710.
