Biography
Antonio Schiassi (Faenza, Italy, 1807 – Rome, Italy, 1877)
Born in Faenza in 1807, Antonio Schiassi trained as an engraver under Paolo Toschi, master of the Parma school. His technical skill led him to produce numerous reproductions of works by Raphael, religious subjects, and official portraits.
In 1873, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he contributed to the education of a new generation of engravers.
Among his most notable works are The Beatification of Pope Eugene III and Portrait of Queen Maria Cristina of Naples. His production, distinguished by precise lines and fidelity to classical models, played a central role in the dissemination of art through printmaking.Schiassi died in Rome in 1877.
