Biography
Tommaso Porta (Brescia, Italy, 1686 – Verona, Italy, 1768)
Born in Brescia between 1686 and 1689, Tommaso Porta received his artistic training under Pieter Mulier, known as “Il Tempesta,” from whom he learned landscape painting and the dramatic use of light and color.
He was also known by the nickname “Il Bresciano,” and his painting was inspired by the models of Giuseppe Zais and Sebastiano Ricci, though he developed a personal style characterized by Arcadian landscapes, bright tones, and rich narrative detail.
In addition to landscapes, he painted hunting scenes, rural games, and allegorical fables, often in collaboration with his son Andrea Porta, who was also a painter.
His works, both on canvas and in fresco, are distinguished by their vibrant colors, balanced compositions, and serene, pastoral atmosphere.
Tommaso Porta died in Verona on April 30, 1768.
