Biography
Perino & Vele (Naples, Italy, 1994)
The artistic duo Perino & Vele was formed by Emiliano Perino (born in New York in 1973) and Luca Vele (born in Rotondi, province of Avellino, in 1975). The two artists met while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and began collaborating steadily in 1994. Since then, they have lived and worked in Rotondi, where they founded their studio and creative workshop.
Their artistic research focuses on the use of papier-mâché, which they transform into an expressive medium to address social, political, and cultural themes with irony and critical insight.
Among their most significant exhibitions are: The Big Archive (1994–2014) at the MADRE Museum in Naples, Handle with Care at Galleria Anna Marra Contemporanea in Rome, HappyBrico at Galleria Alfonso Artiaco in Naples, and Public Invasion, a permanent installation at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples. They regularly exhibit in Italy and abroad, participating in international art fairs and public projects. Their works are part of public and private collections, and are featured in museum spaces such as the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation in Milan, MARCA in Catanzaro, and the National Archaeological Museum of Pontecagnano, where they have created permanent installations.
Perino & Vele continue to explore the relationship between art and society, using the apparent lightness of papier-mâché to convey complex messages.
