Biography
Mario Airò (Pavia, Italy 1961)
Born in Pavia in 1961, Mario Airò studied at the Brera Academy in Milan where he took courses with the teacher Luciano Fabro, alongside a group of artists with whom he created the Via Lazzaro Palazzi’s self-managed space.
His first solo exhibition was presented there in 1989, the same year he founded the magazine Tiracorrendo.
In 1990, he was featured in the exhibition AVANBLOB, at Galleria Massimo De Carlo, with the artwork Tristi tropici. There, he anticipated lines and themes that would later become recurring in his poetics, including frequent quotations and references to literature, cinema, art history, as well as objects from his everyday life.
In 1997, he took part in the Venice Biennale with La stanza dove Marsilio sognava di dormire... e altri racconti (The room where Marsilio dreamed of sleeping... and other tales), which he then presented at the GAM – Gallery of Modern Art in Turin in 2001.
He took part in the Gwangju Bienniale in 2004 and in the group exhibition Spazi atti/Fitting Spaces at the PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan.
In addition to national exhibitions, he has also participated in numerous international ones.
He now lives and works in Milan.
