Biography
Riccardo De Marchi (Mereto di Tomba, Udine, Italy, 1964)
Born in Mereto di Tomba, in the province of Udine, in 1964, Riccardo De Marchi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice until the mid-1980s. In 1986, he made his debut with a solo exhibition at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice.
After beginning with a material-based painting of informal derivation, Riccardo De Marchi abandoned traditional techniques, opting instead for iron sheets, painted and perforated. This shift aimed to express the complexity of space, encapsulating both the concept of base and matter.
In his work, contrasts such as presence and absence, light and shadow, sign and meaning intersect, creating a new grammar of painting.
In 1993, he took part in Deterritoriale, the Venice Bienniale by Achille Bonito Oliva.
He exhibited in group and solo shows both in Italy and abroad: in 2011, at the Guggenheim and Fortuny Museum in Venice, and the Mart in Rovereto. He also held a solo exhibition at the MACRO in Rome, entitled Fori Romani (Roman forum).
