    Elisa Sighicelli (Turin, Italy, 1968)

Born in Turin in 1968, Elisa Sighicelli studied at Kingston University in London, graduating in 1995. In 1997 she earned a Master's degree from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London.

In her artistic practice, which focuses on ordinary scenes, images are revealed through light. She uses a backlighting technique to emphasise specific parts of the work, making it more open and suggestive.

The result resembles a small theatrical set with dark areas where light shines through and generates the artwork.

Her first solo exhibitions were at the Genillard Gallery in London in 1998, and at the Gio’ Marconi in Milan in 1999.

Then, she was involved in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including in Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, New York, Prague, Siena and at the Gagosian Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2007, she held a major retrospective at GAM in Turin.

She also participated in the Rome Quadriennale in 2005 and the Venice Biennale in 2009.

The artist currently lives and works in Turin.
