    Maja Vukoje (Düsseldorf (DE), 1969)


    Maja Vukoje was born in Düsseldorf in 1969 and studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1988 to 1994. There, she attended the masterclasses of Maria Lassnig and Christian Ludwig Attersee.

    The artist is known on the national and international stage. Solo and group exhibitions have featured works by Vukoje in Vienna, Berlin, Milan, Paris and Warsaw, to name but a few examples. The most recent solo exhibition was at Wonnerth Dejaco in Vienna in 2023. In 2021, the artist's largest exhibition to date was organised at the Belvedere in Vienna, where around 100 works of art from the last 15 years were presented.

    She has received several prizes and awards throughout her career. In 1999 she received the State Scholarship for Fine Arts in Austria, in 2004 the Georg Eisler Prize of the former Bank Austria Creditanstalt, in 2015 the Outstanding Artist Award and in 2020 the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts. She is also a member of the Association of Visual Artists in the Vienna Secession and has also been a member of its board since 2013.

    The artist lives and works in Vienna.
