Isa Genzken (Bad Oldeslohe, Germany 1948)

The internationally renowned German artist Isa Genzken studied in Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf. In her early work, the artist intensively explored minimalism and conceptual art.

For some time now, however, Genzken has been treading radically new paths by utilising a wide variety of materials and representational concepts. Using common everyday objects in combination with specially designed sculptural bodies, she creates spatially tangible installations that appear both familiar and strange to the viewer.

Isa Genzken took part in the Documenta in Kassel in 1987, 1992 and 2002, and in 2007 she exhibited in the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Isa Genzken has received prizes and awards for her celebrated work, including the Wolfgang Hahn Prize from the Museum Ludwig in 2002, the Goslar Kaiserring in 2017 and the Nasher Prize from the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas in 2019

In 2023, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin organised a comprehensive solo exhibition for the artist on the occasion of her 75th birthday.
