    Albert Oehlen (Krefeld, Germany 1954)

Albert Oehlen studied under Sigmar Polke at the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Hamburg until 1981.

His work is very diverse and, in addition to painting, which is his main focus, also includes drawing, collage, installations and computer graphics.

He already took part in important exhibitions in the 1980s. Since then, his works have been presented in numerous national and international institutions, including the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, the Kunsthalle Basel, the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain in Strasbourg, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la ville de Paris, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Museum Folkwang and the Guggenheim Bilbao. Renowned collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt hold his works.

The Düsseldorf Art Academy honoured him with a professorship, which he held from 2000 to 2009.

Albert Oehlen has received prizes and special honours for his work, including an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015.
