Lorenzo Sabatini (Bologna, Italy, 1530 c. – Rome, Italy, 1570)

He was born in Bologna in 1530. Although there is limited information about his education, it is believed that he may have studied in Bologna, following Prospero Fontana's lead

In 1562, he met Vasari. With the artist, Sabatini established a relationship of deep and mutual esteem. In his work, "The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects," Vasari described Sabatini as an "exquisite painter" of his time.

In 1565, he worked in Florence, painting a series of frescoes in Palazzo Vecchio.

Sabatini returned to Florence in 1572, after living for a long time in Bologna, where he focused on both frescoes and movable works. During this time, he also decorated the top part of the dome of St. Maria del Fiore

In 1573, he moved to Rome where he spent the last years of his life. He dedicated himself to the pontifical Curia and completed the decorations for the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican.

The painter died in Rome in 1576.
