Gaetano Cittadini (Bologna, Italy, 1700/1713 – Bologna, Italy, 1770)

Gaetano Cittadini was born in Bologna, supposedly in 1713. However, some studies suggest that his birth may date back to the beginning of the century.

Little is known about the painter and his brother Giovanni Girolamo. The only certainty lies in two pieces of information: they were born into a well-known family of artists, and they were interested in representing still lives and landscapes.

In his writings, the painter Giuseppe Maria Crespi praised Gaetano Cittadini's talent for portraying sceneries in both large-scale works and in essential drawings known as "macchiette".

The artist died in Bologna in 1770.
