Giuseppe Bernardino Bison (Palmanova, Italy, 1762 – Milan, Italy, 1844)
Giuseppe Bernardino Bison was born in Palmanova, Italy, in 1762. During his childhood, he moved to Brescia with his family where he had the opportunity to train with painters such as Romani and Gandini.
The family later relocated to Venice where Bison continued his studies under the guidance of Antonio Maria Zanetti the Younger. From 1779 to 1789, he honed his skills by attending the Academy of Painting, where he deepened techniques such as and perspective painting.
In the following years, he worked as a set designer in various locations including Treviso, Gorinzia, and theatres La Fenice (Venice) and Nuovo (Trieste).
Bison’s work took him throughout northeastern Italy and, in 1831, he arrived in Milan, where he collaborated with the art dealer Tosoni. From 1833 to 1842, he participated in five exhibitions at the Brera Academy.
He died in Milan in 1844.
