Biography
Matthias Weischer (Elte, Germany 1973)
Born in 1973, the paintings of Matthias Weischer depict interior scenes and landscapes that question our perception of space. Working with thick layers of pigment, Weischer creates material canvases that combine areas of rich detail with voids of emptiness and a focus on the figure and its relationship with the domestic.
Weischer studied at the Leipzig Academy. In 2004, he was selected to work with British artist David Hockney through the Rolex Mentor & Protégé Arts Initiative and, in 2005, he participated in the Prague Biennial and the 51st Venice Biennial.
Matthias Weischer lives and works in Leipzig, Germany.
