    Jakob Gasteiger (Salzburg, Austria 1953)

Born in 1953, he was oriented towards monochromatic minimalism. Gasteiger blurs the boundaries between drawing, sculpture and painting, reflecting on the pictorial process, forgoing representation to focus on an elementary formal language. The viewer is drawn to the colour, structure, and texture of the lines and the resulting transition between spaces.  His artworks do not tell stories and refer to nothing else, with nothing in common but their pure self-reference.

Jakob Gasteiger graduated in 1974 from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg. In 2019, he received the Grand Decoration of Honour from the Land of Lower Austria. His artworks are included in many public collections, including the Albertina in Vienna.
